ANIMATION FILMS MADE BY CHILDREN

Sri Ganesha and the Moon

This animation film is based on a traditional story from the Ganesh Puran from India.

Once, the Elephant headed child God Ganesha was returning home after a late night feast. He was riding on the back of his pet mouse. A full moon watched in amusement.

Suddenly a snake appeared on the path. The mouse was frightened and ran away.

Ganesha fell to the ground!

The full moon was watching. He found the sight funny. He laughed.

Ganesha became angry. He broke one of his tusks and threw it at the moon.

The moon ran away and hid behind the earth.

Without the moon, all music stopped. All was silent. Love came to an end.

The people prayed to Ganesha and begged him to forgive the moon.

Ganesha agreed but he was still angry at the moon. He ordered the moon to go into hiding once every 15 days so he would remember and repent for his mistake.

That is why, to this day, the moon waxes and wanes from Purnima to Amavasya, from full moon to a moonless night.
