HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ANIMATION FILMS

1. Write a short story in 10 lines or less.

2. Or draw an original cartoon character.

3. Make a comic book of the story or character.

4. Draw out the cartoon character in front, back and side view on a 200 gsm hard paper or art card.

5. Cut out all moving parts from the body - hands, legs, head.

6. Paste them back to the body using small balls of Blue tac. The balls should stick
the parts and allow them to move along an axis.

7. Colour the backgrounds on a large Cartridge sheet 20X30 inches. Make many backgrounds using oil pastles or poster colours.

8. Tape the camera tripod to the ground. Tape the background to the ground. Place the cut-out puppet characters on the background.

9. Switch on the camera and take a shot. Move the body part of the cut out puppet character. Take a shot. Move the character. Take another shot.

Begin with 5 shots for each second of movement. The animation may appear a bit stiff and jurky, but the message or story will be well conveyed. In your next film you could try working with 8 to 12 shots per second.

10. Grab the sequence of shots on your computer hard disk. Place the footage on the timeline of any film editing software like Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere or Mac's Final Cut Pro.

11. Create a title and the end credits.

12. Delete all frames that have any error. Reduce the film speed if the animation appears too fast.

13. Import a sound track and place it along the footage in the time line.

14. Play your own animation film.

15. Render your film as an .avi or .mov format file.

16. Show your animation film to friends and relatives. Enter it in international film festivals. Upload it on youtube or on your own website. Send us a copy too. We will help you any-which-way-we-can.
